Bring on the Pulitzer

Back when we were considering whether or not to send our August birthday girl to Kindergarten this year, we looked over some of her end of the pre-school year work. Her teacher had given her a "spelling test" where Julia wrote letters that were dictated to her. We were so proud of her work but that was about the extent of her interest in writing anything remotely related to the English language.

I had noticed other kids actually writing words at her age but Julia seemed such a long way from being able to do that. She never even attempted it.

Two days ago Julia learned about a little writing technique called "guess and go" from a first grade friend. Julia received the news that it was okay to make your best guess at how words were spelled even if it wasn't right exactly the same way as you might imagine someone who just heard they wouldn't have to walk barefoot across a bed of burning coals afterall would. Her relief was palpable.

All freed up from her prior false notions, she sat down last night and wrote this letter to Mark to share with his students:

In case the picture is a bit blurry, here's what she wrote:
DER DADDY YOR CLAS IS SWET I LIC VISTEN AT YR CLAS WITH MAMA AND MIMI AND SEN YAR CLAS MACS ME WAT TI SMIYL

I can't stop smiyling myself:)
