Having grown up in Michigan we have great fun mocking the way schools here close with the barest trace accumulations (but only in private lest the powers that be realize what whimps they are and change the policy). Back home, if there was not at least a full 12 inches of snow it was time to put on those down parkas and never you mind that your eyelashes froze to your face.
Due to the relative rarity of snow, the fact that we almost never get more than an inch at a time, and the fact that temps generally find their way back to the upper 30s before long, we have figured out how make a little snow go a long way. Our girls know how to make a morning of fun out of half an inch of the wet white stuff before it vanishes in a pool of slush.
