These pics are from last weekend's camping trip at Cape Disappointment, located on the southern tip of the Long Beach Peninsula. This was the first time we ventured to put ourselves and our two young daughters out in the wilds, separated from nature by only a thin sheet of (what we hoped was) waterproof fabric. Turns out tent camping is big fun when the skies are sunny, the temps are in the 80s, and there is a cooling breeze blowing in off the Pacific! There were lighthouses to explore, beautiful soft, black sparkly sand to dig in, and 15 other families with children from China to play with. The park (not even slightly disappointing to us:)) is near a small town called Ilwaco, allegedly the place where Lewis and Clark emerged from the wilderness to first spot the Pacific Ocean. We visited Ilwaco in search of a strong cup of coffee and wound up eating breakfast overlooking a lovely marina, lined with booths for the local "Saturday Market." Seafood is big in this town and the oyster omelette I enjoyed for breakfast proved it.
By the way, one of the photos features Julia reading to her baby. Until recently, most of her friends were named in descriptive terms--her blue blanket is "bluey", her stuffed grasshopper is "grasshopper", etc. This weekend marked some developmental milestone or other for Julia in that baby now has her own name! In Gwyneth Paltrow fashion (she named her daughter Apple), Julia's baby is now called "Pear".

How cute! Caroline still calls her baby "baby". Love little Mimi's mud bath skin treatment! How fun to go there with other families just like ours! Julia looks so cute reading to Pear.
We were hoping to go camping this summer too. Hopefully it will work out, but our weekends keep getting booked!
