There is simply no way to elegantly return to the world of blogging after such a long absence. I have a few drafts of posts and lots of pictures to share but now that so much time has passed, I'll have to intersperse those amongst current posts if I ever hope to get started again. The game of catch up would keep me busy enough to make it impossible to ever get current.
I think of it as a Christmas Miracle that I am back on board today!
Speaking of Christmas Miracles...
Julia had long been telling anyone who would listen that she wanted a Maya and Miguel computer for Christmas. Mama and Daddy had months to procure the desired object in time for the holiday. We did web searches, emailed PBS (the host of the Maya and Miguel TV show), contacted the organization that had Maya and Miguel marketing rights, and everything else we could think of to find such a computer for our girl, but to no avail. The toys simply did not exist.
This year, as with all Christmases, the 25th seemed to sneak up on us unawares. We scheduled our annual Santa Breakfast for 12/3 and before we were willing to concede defeat in the computer department, listened in as Julia opened her heart to Santa, telling him how she longed for her Maya and Miguel computer. That afternoon, following another round of increasingly frantic searching for that darned computer, we were starting to toy with the idea of purchasing a used laptop and adorning it with Maya and Miguel stickers in an attempt to fool our girl. We knew it wouldn't work.
We had searched long and hard but finally were ready to admit defeat. We felt like the worst parents ever, realizing full-well what idiots we were to allow her to hope for so long, and foreseeing that her disappointment would only be magnified for not having explained the facts to her earlier. I cried.
You know that definition of crazy...the one that says crazy is doing the same thing over and over hoping for a different result? That was us. The day after, without even the slightest thought of success, but with the kind of desperation that makes people keep trying anyway, Mark Googled Maya and Miguel computer one more time. The toy hadn't existed the thousands of other times we Googled those very words but that day, the day after Julia spoke to Santa, an entry appeared. A Maya and Miguel Laptop could be purchased on sale, mind you, and delivered in plenty of time for Christmas morning. We were dizzy with joy, elated, euphoric! We came out of the darkness of insanity into the light and harmony of bliss. We were awed!
Surely only Santa himself could have pulled this one off.
Yes Julia, there is very definitely a Santa Claus.
Merry Christmas to all!
